Connecting and Educating Grantmakers to Leverage Philanthropy’s Impact in Georgia

Georgia Grantmakers Alliance (GGA) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, participant organization committed to making a transformational difference in Georgia communities.

Our Goals

Convene

Support a robust community of Georgia grantmakers, open to all types of funders that invest in nonprofits working in Georgia communities.

Learn

Explore statewide issues, public policy, and their implications for grantmakers and nonprofits and the communities that they serve.

Educate

Share knowledge to increase grantmakers’ understanding of the impact of public policy and empower them to influence issues of importance to their organizations.

Connect

Highlight opportunities for grantmakers to expand their reach by aligning with other investors and public capital to catalyze equitable outcomes.

Initially founded in 2010 as a grantmaker affinity group within Southeastern Council of Foundations (now Philanthropy Southeast, PSE), GGA’s state-based work continues to be complementary to PSE’s regional approach. We prioritize collaboration to break silos, connecting grantmakers, resources, and communities. Our network offers education and public policy resources to all grant-making professionals who share our vision for a better Georgia.

Together, let’s create a
brighter future for our state.

Strategic Articulation Map

The GGA Strategic Articulation Map was developed with deep engagement from our philanthropic community. As many as 120 Georgia grantmakers – all types and sizes, from around the state – contributed to this plan. Through this Strategic Articulation Map, we will work with greater purpose and a clearer strategy to connect and educate grantmakers and leverage philanthropy's impact in Georgia.

Our Purpose is to:

Develop and Connect Philanthropic Leaders

Interpret & Influence Public Policy

Activate & Align Foundation Capital

to make a transformational difference in all Georgia’s communities.

Voices of Impact: Testimonials from Our Community

“Georgia Grantmakers Alliance builds the equitable practice of philanthropy in Georgia by bringing together funders from across the state to learn from each other, share best practices, and translate those practices into action.”

Kweku Forstall

Director, Atlanta Civic Site, Annie E. Casey Foundation, Atlanta, GA

“GGA works at the intersection of philanthropy and public policy, interpreting policy change and educating funders about the impact policy has on the nonprofit sector. GGA strengthens understanding of how policy is directly tied to the non-profit sector’s ability to improve some of our society’s most complex and challenging issues. This allows funders to be informed and supportive of the ecosystem our partners are navigating for success.”

Bonnie Hardage

Executive Director, Jesse Parker Williams Foundation, Atlanta, GA

“In my hometown of Columbus, public-private partnerships aren't novel; they're necessary for philanthropy, business, and government to maximize the impact of every effort to elevate the quality of life for all citizens of the Chattahoochee Valley. GGA is a place where we can share our story, our successes AND our failures, and ultimately inspire others to dig deeper in their own communities to do less good and more great.”

Gilbert Miller

Chair, Bradley-Turner Foundation, Columbus, GA

“The network and connections that are made through GGA are especially important to those of us who work in under-resourced areas of the state. There’s this notion of two Georgias - Atlanta then the rest of the state which highlights the deep divide when it comes to access and resources. With GGA, we are able to learn from other funders while sharing how we have addressed disparities in resources to improve outcomes for people living in rural communities.”

Shaunae Motley

President & CEO, United Way of Southwest Georgia, Albany, GA
